A teenager has miraculously come back to life after his parents had signed documents donating his organs.
Trenton McKinley, 13, from Mobile, Alabama, US, suffered severe brain trauma from a dune buggy accident two months ago.
Trenton says his friend had applied the buggy’s brakes abruptly forcing the trailer he was riding on to flip and land on top of him.
He was rushed to USA Medical
Center for emergency surgery with seven fractures in his skull.
“All I saw was a stretcher with his feet hanging out. He was dead a total of 15 minutes,” his mother, Jennifer Reindl, told Fox10.
Trenton was clinging to life in hospital – brain dead and barely breathing. His parents were told if he survived he would be in a vegetative state the rest of his life.
Ms Reindl said with five children desperate for organs that matched her sons, her family made the heartbreaking decision to sign the papers to donate his organs.
But just one day before doctors planned to pull the plug, Trenton remarkably began responding and displaying signs of cognition.
Despite suffering from nerve pain and seizures daily as well as losing over 20 kilograms in weight, the teen is making giant strides in his recovery.
