The Super Eagles of Nigeria came from 2-0 down to outclass the South American giants 4-2 on the back of a brilliant Alex Iwobi brace and further strikes from Kelechi Iheanacho and debuting left-back Bryan Idowu in a 6-goal thriller in Russia on Tuesday.
Goals from Banega and Manchester city’s forward, Kun Aguero, put the Messi-less Argentine side ahead in the first 36 minutes, but the Super Eagles fought back brilliantly. In the 44th minute, Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho began Nigeria’s fightback with a curling free kick that beat the Argentine’s goalkeeper.
Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi grabbed a brace. He score in the 52nd and 73rd minute. Brian Idowu had scored Eagles’ third goal in the 54th minute.
Retired Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has expressed his pride in the team’s performance in 2017, which was rounded off with a stunning 4-2 victory over Argentina in a friendly in Krasnodar, Russia on Tuesday. Enyeama quit the team in 2015 after falling out with then head coach Sunday Oliseh but there have been loud calls for him to return for next year’s World Cup.
However, Enyeama, who is on the road to recovery after a long injury-enforced lay-off, is happy with the present team’s performances.
“What a way to end 2017. Proud of @NGSuperEagles as a proud naija soccer supporter. Standing ovation, hat off and bravoooo ,” Enyeama tweeted moment after Tuesday’s friendly win.
On the other hand, Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero was rushed to a local hospital in Krasnodar after he fainted in Argentina’s dressing room during half-time of Tuesday’s friendly with Nigeria, local media reported.
Aguero, who scored the winner in Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Russia on Saturday, netted his team’s second goal against Nigeria in the 36th minute in Krasnodar before he was replaced at the break.
Sport Express daily reported that Argentina’s team doctor took the decision to transport Aguero to hospital as a precaution and to undergo medical tests.
